West Coast University, a private university with the singular focus of educating health care professionals, is currently seeking a Chair, Department Pharmacy Practice. This is an outstanding opportunity for a professional to join a growing university as we expand our academic programs in health care and related fields.


The Chair, Department Pharmacy Practice is responsible for development of faculty at practice sites, oversight of experiential education in conjunction with the Assistant Dean, Experiential Education and teaching in area of his/her expertise.  Provides professional leadership and support for clinical teaching faculty; serves as a mentor and facilitator for faculty assigned; and enables an environment which fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility.  Establishes specific learning objectives, and supervises clinical affiliations to ensure that the experience is adequate and achieves a satisfactory level of performance. 

 


The ideal candidate possess a terminal degree (PhD, EdD, or PharmD) from an accredited college or university which includes substantial course work in pharmacy, a pharmaceutical discipline, education and/or administration. As required in the State of  California, a current California Registered Pharmacist  License.  Pharmacy Board License is required or other current professional licensure by state or national board preferred.


The incumbent must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by the California Board of Pharmacy.  Also, maintain any professional certifications deemed necessary to meet the requirements of the teaching role.


A minimum of three years in an administrative position with increasing responsibilities and planning in academic administration, planning and leadership within a regionally accredited institution in higher education is required, with prior experience in community/health-systems pharmacy with supervisor experience. Previous administrative experience at the department chair level in an accredited school of pharmacy or a comparable leadership position outside academia is preferred.  Five year’s prior experience teaching in an ACPE accredited College/School of Pharmacy programs.  If pharmacy licensed, a minimum five year’s prior experience as a licensed pharmacist


Experience in strategic planning and execution required.  Knowledge of education/governmental compliance and regulatory standards such as ACPE, WASC and other accreditation standards. 


Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by any accreditation body that West Coast University is accredited by or in process of obtaining accreditation from, for area of expertise and expectations of faculty member as set forth in regulatory documents. 

  • Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, or PharmD) from an accredited college or university which includes substantial

  • Current California Registered Pharmacist  License, Pharmacy Board License is required or other current professional licensure by state or national board if applicable. 
  • If employee does not have a current license, a valid California license to practice pharmacy is required within nine months from date of hire at employee’s own cost. 
  • Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by the California Board of Pharmacy. 
  • Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by any accreditation body that West Coast University is accredited by or in process of obtaining accreditation from, for area of expertise and expectations of faculty member as set forth in regulatory documents.  
  • Must maintain any professional certifications deemed necessary to meet the requirements of the teaching role. 
  • Current Driver’s License.
  • Minimum three to five years in an administrative position with increasing responsibilities for multi-faceted, multi-location direction and planning in academic administration, planning and leadership within a regionally accredited institution in higher education. 
  • Prior experience in community/health-systems pharmacy and community outreach. 
  • Previous administrative experience at the department chair level in an accredited school of pharmacy or a comparable leadership position outside academia. 
  • Two years supervisory or managerial experience. 
  • Five year’s prior experience teaching in an ACPE accredited College/School of Pharmacy programs.
  • If pharmacy licensed, a minimum five year’s prior experience as a licensed pharmacist. 
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution required. 
  • Knowledge of education/governmental compliance and regulatory standards such as ACPE, WASC and other accreditation standards. 
  • Experience with MS Office.
