Reporting directly to the Director, Education and working closely with the Vice President, Academics and the Campus Executive Director, the Assistant Director, Education is responsible for assisting with the academic process for programs offered for students that includes direct management and oversight of vocational educational instruction, student retention and attrition, academic advisement, and records administration in accordance with school policies and procedures and all applicable federal, state and accrediting agencies standards and regulations.  Supervises and trains program directors, faculty and administrative staff to attain or surpass campus student academic goals; providing excellent customer service in order to increase student retention in accordance with the mission and purpose of the school.  Assists in the development of operational and capital budgets and prepares reports on budgets, staffing, and other activities as required.



Directs the vocational educational programs and activities that includes curriculum, instruction, attendance monitoring, retention, and academic advisement to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accrediting bodies, and company policies and procedures in concert with other ACC campus programs.


Assists with all communication regarding the applicable program board, accrediting and/or licensing agency, changes to program content, physical facilities, and faculty, legal receipts/requests for documents, and/or completion of required reports in order to maintain programmatic accreditation and/or licensure status is coordinated through the appropriate College Administration Department.


Directs, manages and ensures curricula, course outlines, objectives, grading criteria, faculty credentials, licenses, and certifications, student records; and minutes of all advisory committee meetings in accordance with the Human Resources and Records and Retention Policy and Procedures.


Provides leadership on planning, developing, and actively participating on all Program Advisory Boards ensuring company guidelines and goals are applied consistently throughout the organization.


Oversees each vocational educational program’s student attrition and retention rates; develops and implements initiatives to improve rates, establishes internal resources for student academic counseling activities and monitors program outcomes in compliance with licensing and/or approval from appropriate state oversight agencies and ACC standards of operation.


Oversees and supervises the hiring process for vocational educational program directors, faculty, and staff ensuring each person meets the required credentials, certifications and qualifications to teach in their field and/or perform the essentials functions of their job responsibilities.


Participates in programmatic evaluation and revision; new program development and implementation; curriculum development; and recommends and makes changes where necessary.


Plans, directs and monitors daily guidance of didactic, laboratory, and clinical assignments and/or scheduling of classes.


Conducts periodic classroom observations for all programs to ensure consistency in teaching methods and takes appropriate action to correct teaching needs/training.


Interacts and collaborates with the Program Director on tutoring services; analyzing needs, and evaluating resources to increase participation in programs, ensuring student success in program completion.


Ensures processes are in place to track, monitor and record student completion and/or outcomes of tests/exams for certification and/or licensure status in field of program.

  1. Ensures faculty are recording daily class attendance and grades as required, grades and returns homework assignments timely, and grades tests, quizzes, lab assignments promptly.

Assures student course evaluations are administered each term, and that the feedback is provided to faculty in a timely fashion.


Shares responsibility for the overall effectiveness of campus operations and provides administrative coverage in the evening and in the absence of the Director, Education.


Ensures and protects the privacy and confidentiality of student academic records as appropriate.


Ensures timely completion of associate performance appraisals, training, development and competency of staff, conflict resolution, performance improvement and/or counseling processes up to and including termination to manage and achieve program goals and objectives.


Stays current with legislation, state, and federal requirements related to academic programs and student records.


Participates in professional development and organizations in order to maintain an understanding of current ideas, research and practices, attends meetings, workshops and seminars to enrich personal growth, knowledge and skill in management development.


Maintains professional appearance for position and serves as a role model, leader and mentor to the campus community.


Adheres to Company policies and procedures and provides leadership to all staff through guidance and example.


Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the Company’s Ethics Code of Business Conduct, College Administration Compliance Agreement, its policies and procedures, applicable federal and states laws, and applicable professional standards.


Maintains confidentiality of all customer, student, associate, and/or company information as required.


Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.


Maintains order, cleanliness and safety at work.


Performs other job duties as assigned.


Bachelor degree in higher education, teaching discipline, counseling/student services or related field required.


Master’s degree in higher education, teaching discipline, counseling/student services or related field preferred.

None required.


Minimum three to five years’ experience in teaching in an academic setting.


Three to five years of increasing responsibility and experience in a management level position in an academic environment with a demonstrated record of professional success in curriculum development, educational effectiveness assessment and improvement, faculty development and performance appraisals, student attrition, retention, and graduate outcomes.


Knowledge of the principles of supervision, administration, systems management and community organization as applicable to specialized program area. 


Knowledge of secondary and postsecondary educational programs.


Leadership knowledge in the program field to cultivate a learner-centered environment and to foster excellence.


Knowledge in technological support and delivery of program area and services.


Experience with MS Office. 


Knowledge of applicable databases and computer application systems to supply the most accurate information, reports and projections.


Knowledge of state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance and other regulatory standards such as Title IV, ABHES, BPPE, and other accreditation standards. 


Ability to analyze data, evaluate and analyze program effectiveness and resource utilization. 


Ability to demonstrate a thorough, accurate and practical knowledge of their field or discipline.


Ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.


Ability to effectively operate related equipment and machines for instructional purposes.


Ability to operate a variety of office equipment and machines such as computer terminal, calculator and copier.


Ability to manage and work effectively in a highly ethnic and culturally diverse student and associate community.

Ability to use effective communication skills, both oral and written, including presentations and effective listening skills.


Ability to manage projects and people, participate in and facilitate group meetings.


Ability to speak before public groups, committees and meetings.

Ability to effectively use interpersonal skills, follow through with duties, provide attention to detail, and demonstrate the ability to motivate others.

Ability to use creative facilitation and conflict resolution skills to resolve difficult and sensitive issues.


Ability to demonstrate excellent analytical and organizational skills.


Ability to self-direct, self-pace, multi-task and function well under pressure of deadlines and conflicting priorities.


Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Ability to interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures and assure compliance.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule.


Ability to travel/drive locally on a weekly, daily and/or on an as needed basis.


Ability to demonstrate bilingual skills is a plus but not mandatory.
